Programmers of Systems & Applications...

A 'Programmer' writes computer programs or software, often referred to as 'applications'.

A Program is a very detailed set of instructions to enable your computer to perform a particular function. Some examples of programs could be anything from your Windows XP or Vista operating system, to word processors, spreadsheets, databases or games.

This could also include the till systems at your local supermarket, the instructions for the robots that built your car, or the internet booking system that allows you to book your holiday on-line.

Programmers use many different 'languages' (like 'VB', 'C++', 'PHP' & 'Java' for instance) which are tailored to suit particular needs or requirements.

Without programs, computers would just be dumb pieces of hardware; a useless box that does nothing. It is the creation of programs, operating systems and software that has caused the entire IT revolution. Obviously, their importance to a company and to society is profound.
